Access 2007 and Runtime SP2 now available

Installed SP2 fullfile version. Having a problem with datasheet forms locking up on Vista 32. Using backend 2003 mdb on XP and SQL Server 2000 both exhibit the same problem. Recordset does not fully populate unless manually forced to movelast using navigation button. Then everything works fine. Same program on Vista with SP1 works fine. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Clint, It is good to see that PDF export no longer needs the installation of a separate add-in. Even better is the fact that controls with plain text, e.g. labels, now show the underlining when exported to PDF and no longer need the painful workround of converting to textboxes and changing the format to Rich Text. I haven't noticed the correction to the underlining problem noted anywhere in the blurb put out about the service pack. Alan

Hi, Great news. Can you clarify what I need to do to update client PCs with Office 2007 Standard SP1 and Access 2007 Runtime? Do I need to install the Office 2007 SP2 AND reinstall the new Access 2007 RT? What is the best way to do this, will Access 2007 RT update be offered via WSUS?

Follow up to comment on datasheet forms freezing. I added code to force a recordset movelast and movefirst to mitigate the freezing forms. Good thing I have a single function called by all 200 data entry forms. However, now the statusbartext on single forms and datasheet forms flashes every 3 seconds, replacing the statusbartext for a millisecond with something like Updating tables. Press and hole esc to stop... Can not read the line it flashes so fast. The refresh interval is set to 60 seconds and the update retry interval is 250ms. Same problem occurs with backend 2002 mdb and with SQL Server 2000 odbc connection, both running on XP SP2 box. I have dozens of customers using a program with over 150 tables and 200 forms that will be presented with these issues when they install their next Windows update. Need to resove this as soon as possible. Thanks!

The datasheet lockup problem may be fixed on my system. I tested several table datasheet views directly in the backend mdb. The lock up was isolated to a couple of tables. After compacting the 160meg 2003 mdb a couple of times with 2007 SP2, the table datasheets suddenly began to work without locking up. Maybe I just got lucky. I am leaving the code in the forms to movelast/movefirst and force the full population of the recordsets for now. May have to do conversion and compaction on all installed databases. Updating tables. Press and hold ESC to stop... This occurs even when I have a simple table open in the backend mdb file with no externally linked tables. Thanks.

I don't see the status bar flashing on my machine. I recommend you create a support case. support.microsoft.com/.../international.aspx The support team will narrow down the repro steps and then work with engineering to get a fix (if appropriate). This is the most actionable way for us to get you a fix.

A colleague of mine has recorded SRQ090430600084 (flashing StatusBar) here in Czech Republic. MS CZ technician has experienced flashing StatusBar in A2007 CZ SP2, too. I wonder if he will follow up the case to you. I'll try to phone MS hotline tomorrow to check it out. P.S. Thank you (or your colleagues) to make Access hotline available here in Czech Republic. It was not available before, as you know.

After updating to Service Pack 2 I am also experiencing the "StatusBar continually flashing" issue.

Thanks Clint for the advice. I have worked around most of the problems at this point. I have installed 2007 SP2 on 3 computers now, 2 Vista machines that have been updated to 05/03/2009 and 1 XP SP2 with current updates. All three have flashing statusbar text at different time intervals, 3 seconds or slower. This is not really a problem, just annoying - that is unless it has something to do with the following problem. I have one Vista machine that works fine with datasheets without locking up. The recordset count is updated as soon as the datasheet is loaded. Same for the XP SP2 machine which works the best of all 3. However, the other Vista machine, that gave me trouble previously, still locks up on certain tables with as few as 33 records even when the datasheet is launched from the navigation bar - tables section. The record count does not get populated at the bottom of the datasheet. After 5 to 12 seconds, it is obvious that communication to the database has stopped and the only way out is to terminate Access. Even tried letting it sit for an hour, but no go. Both of the Vista machines have been updated similarly using manual Windows updates. But there are several more Windows updates installed on the problem machine. So something is preventing the recordset from communicating correctly to the backend database residing on a XP SP2 host machine. I also disabled my anti-virus programs and firewalls to no avail. The scary part is that I can get the problem machine to work after beating on the database with several compacts and other random acts of frustration. But the next time I reboot, the problem shows up again. Most of my clients have stuck with XP. So I will revisit this if my Vista clients run into this datasheet problem. I can restore the recordset function to movelast/movefirst when they open my datasheet forms to fix the problem. But I would prefer to not do that when they might have 80,000 gas wells in a datasheet. All that being said, SP2 has fixed the two main problems that I have had with Access 2007. That was the right mouse click crashes and the datasheet subform delete record that did not work. Both of those appear to work now without a hitch in SP2 and for that I am most grateful. Saves me from having to program work-arounds in several packages. Thanks!

When I scroll up and down using my mouse or page up/page down, the scroll bar continues moving and the selection keeps moving down after I stop scrolling. It's like there's some kind of delay with Access populating the listings below the current page. My navigation pane is set to view by details, all access objects. Started after installing SP2.

Followup: This Navigation Pane scrolling problem is happening on two different workstations, when viewing by Details or Icon. The scrolling is all screwed up. This doesn't happen when using List view.

While we're on the subject, I vastly preferred the Database window from previous versions of Access. The Navigation Pane is clumsy and awkward when all you want to do is view your objects in a sorted list, and you can't get nearly as many objects per page. The Navigation pane should be optional... if someone chooses to dock the database windows on the left, then give them the navigation pane. Otherwise bring back the database window!

I also noticed the same scrolling Nav. Pain effect that you describe, after installing SP-2. And I agree with your last comment: Bring back the good old Database Window!
