Access 2003 and 2007 hot fixes are available

My friends in support just sent me an email about some hot fixes the community might find useful. Hot fixes are now available for the following Microsoft Office Access issues:

Access 2003

  • An Access 2003 project (.adp) stops responding when in table Datasheet view, you delete all child rows from a parent row and then delete the parent row. This issue applies only to an Access 2003 project.
  • A database in .mdb format in Access 2003 SP3 stops responding when you try to delete a parent record from a table in Datasheet view and the Datasheet view uses a sub-datasheet that is expanded to show the related child records.

The hot fix for these Access 2003 issues can be obtained through the following article:

Access 2007

  • In Access 2007, you create a query that does not contain a parameter. When you export the query to a Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet, the Enter Parameter Value dialog box opens.
  • When you open a chart object in Access 2007 on a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008, you see a blank chart.
  • After you upgrade Access 2003 to Access 2007, operations on existing forms have slow performance.
  • You cannot use the SetValue macro in the click events of a Button control to set the Locked property of a Check Box control in Access 2007.
  • You have a printer that has a staple feature. When you print an object in multiple copies in Access 2007, all the copies are stapled as one unit. However, you expect that each copy is stapled individually.

  • Clint, I just applied to HotFix to 2007... I've one very complex form (it has about 400 controls - which change status depending upon the user selections made) which worked like a charm in 2003. Ported to 2007 - over two minutes to open. After applying the fix - about 3 seconds... This was on a fully service packed Vista Business Laptop with 4GB RAM on board & as fast a CPU as I could get at the time of purchase...

  • nice--glad it worked for you.

  • yeah !! By some reason access 2007 works faster on a lot of forms and reports by the way. Thanks my friend.

  • Thanks a lot for the info. The hotfix for access 2007 would be very important for me. Unfortunately it seems to be impossible to get the hotfix. I remember a very comfortable webform that I have used earlier this year to download hotfixes. This does not seem to work anymore. Here in germany the only option is to start a support request and to pay for the bugfix. Why has Microsoft made it so complicated to receive bugfixes?

  • On my Access 2003, creating by using the wizard, I receive a DBEngine failure and some missing ddl. What will be the problem? I have reinstalled MS Access but stil a problem.

  • My ADP (Access Project -- Access 2003) intermittently has the dreaded "not the correct format for an ADP" error. Why does this happen? It doesn't happen with any other MS products.

  • After importing a form that had over 100 fields into 2007 from 2003 the form slowed down to a crawl. It would take a second or two to tab from one control to another. When opening the form you could see the form slowwwly draw the controls one by one down the screen. Applying the 2007 hotfix sped the form up and effectively fixed the speed problems! Yea! Will the form still continue to be quick if the database is opened with the runtime?

  • Nice to see that the hotfix is working for so many people. It seems that I am not getting an answer from microsoft. So my question goes to other developers: how did you get the hotfix? Is there an address or webform I am missing? Thanks!

  • Klaus:

"If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix." HTH :-)
