One of our Access support leads, Claton Hendricks, has put together a tool he calls Access Ribbon Customizer for Access developers who need to build custom ribbons. This tool is slightly reminiscent of (though not exactly the same as) the built-in command bar customization in Access 2003. It has a visual picker which allows you to see what commands are available and use them to build a ribbon on the fly, cool stuff.
Thank you Claton for your contribution to the community!
BTW: this is not to be confused with Patrick Schmid's Ribbon Customizer which we've previously blogged about, which is also a very cool tool.
UPDATE: By the way, Claton's tool is still in testing. He's actively working on improving the quality and taking other feedback. Please feel free to contact him through his page to send yours. Also, Tony D'Ambra has a tool called the Custom RibbonX Reviewer for Access 2007 which is currently at the beta 2 stage. Thank you Tony for the pointer! It is awesome to see so many members of the community stepping in here to try and address the need for a graphical ribbon building tool!
If anyone else has Ribbon related tools that they would like to send a pointer to, please respond in the comments for this post. I'm going to be putting together a page for Access developer tools and other resources like this, and I'll be sure you get listed.

This application is buggy and needs more work. It should be out as a BETA. Btw, 3 months ago I sent you guys an email telling you of my own ribbon customizer app, which you ignored :( It is now in BETA 2 and runs as an add-in within Access 2007 and can be downloaded free from www.aadconsulting.com/betas.html. "Access 2007 RibbonX Reviewer and Builder" BETA 2 provides advanced ribbon review and build features using a treeview paradigm, and there are also extensive reference resources incorporated into the GUI. You can create new Ribbons, copy/paste controls, and add new controls. The next update will feature on-the-fly editing of attributes as well. Certain features and the saving of changes are disabled in the BETA.
Zac, since you mentioned Patrick Schmid's (commercial) tool, we would love it if you and the team would give UI Builder for Access a look. It's not a Ribbon utility, but does go along the same theme (better user experiences in Access). Feedback is always a good thing.... www.opengatesw.com/products.aspx Cheers
These are both good comments, thank you guys! I am going to create a page for links to tools and services for Access developers. I will put your stuff on that page. Tony: I'm sorry about that. Please know we didn't intentionally ignore you. We have a lot of things going on around here, and sometimes an email slips through the cracks. Your tool definitely deserves equal billing. I've edited the post.
Another tool that has to be mentioned, is MVP Gunter Avenius Ribbon Creator, which can be found here:
www.accessribbon.de/.../index.php Give it a test!
It's also under development, but already very useful even for Access beginners. Ciao, Sascha
