For example, if project work is being undertaken by a group of people in different locations, and there&amp;#39;s a tight deadline, then there&amp;#39;s a good reason to know if an e-mail has been read. I have, however, known people set the system up to request a read receipt for all their e-mails, which made me refuse all the requests as a matter of principle. On the other hand I remember an incident when the obligatory office bore became indignant when he realised than an AD had deleted one of his e-mails without even reading it, so it can have unintended comic potential as well.&lt;/p&gt;
