Crabby's Monday tip: Rejuvenate your recent file list

You can use the list of recent documents to display the last few files you opened in that program, and you can also customize how many files show up there and which files you want there all the time. In fact, there are a few things you can do in that recent files area:

  • Change the number of files that appear in the list of recently used files.
  • Keep a file on the Recent Documents list.
  • Clear the list of recently used files.

And now I'll just get right to it and point you to the places that will tell you how. (Now try and tell me this isn't a great tip!)

Office 2010: You'll start at the File tab.

See more "sun images" at office.com/images

Office 2007: You'll start at the Office Button. Office Button

And oh, I wrote about the pushpin feature (a favorite of mine) here, last July.

Now go: find and mark your favorites and then move on with your day.

  • I feel like today) would be so grateful. Providing tips that don’t work is the worst feeling. Know why? Because I KNOW what it’s like to have software that is tricky to use. I do! It’s frustrating, it takes up time, and it’s like talking to a brick wall.

  • @investigation Services: So...I don't quite get your gist: my tip DIDN'T work? Or it did? Please do let us know.

  • Haha...i didn't know about this! At first i'm having difficulty in following your tips but in the end it really works. Thanks for the tips!

  • Well, sometimes it is hard to get up from a task that has to be completed on a schedule. But we have to train and put ourselves on a time limit so we don’t overload our brains and burn ourselves out as well as getting the task done.

  • My recent document list is disabled.  How do I enable?  It won't let me go off zero documents.

  • And it hoped to write some articles for the same readers. Thank you.
