Retaining a competitive advantage: Why staying current with UC matters

The upgrade path

MWH Global recently upgraded to Microsoft Lync Server 2013 to uphold its practice of staying at the forefront of technology and to gain the latest features for instant messaging, presence, and all sorts of conferencing. Plus, the firm wanted to take advantage of the Lync Mobile client, which extends communication and collaboration capabilities to the Apple, Android, and Windows-based smartphones and tablets that its employees use around the world. It also is in the midst of a project that involves using Lync enterprise voice to replace its existing private branch exchange (PBX) telephony system, a further step that will simplify management and reduce ongoing costs.

Breaking down barriers

Having a unified communications infrastructure in place is especially important for MWH Global employees, who are often embedded in customer organizations and can use Lync capabilities to stay connected to the firm from anywhere. Employees worldwide appreciate Lync Federation, which makes it easy to interact with those customers—along with suppliers and partners—who also use Lync.

A stronger sense of team

Perhaps most important, MWH Global is making it possible to operate as a single firm with a cohesive mission, regardless of where its employees are located, the devices they use to communicate, and the form of communication they need to be effective. Using Lync supports more flexible work-life balance and helps the firm cultivate a more personal culture. Ultimately, this makes for happier, more productive employees who work well together for ongoing success, and it helps sharpen the firm’s competitive edge.
