Skype is now available for all Outlook.com customers in North America

A few months ago we announced that a preview of Skype video calling and messaging was starting to arrive in Outlook.com. Today we are excited to give you an update: Skype for Outlook.com is now fully available in several countries around the globe including the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, France, Canada, and the United States. For those of you outside those countries, we’re still working hard to ensure this is available worldwide in the near future.

Bringing two of the world’s largest communications services together

We believe that your email should work with things you already use. Outlook.com already connects with your Facebook, Skype, and Google friends. Now that you can make Skype video calls from Outlook.com, it’s even easier to stay connected to the people you care about most.

Email is an important and personal tool for most people, but there are moments when you want to be able to speak live or chat face-to-face. In a recent Ipsos Public Affairs poll 76% of people say that their email conversations frequently or occasionally result in a follow up phone or video call, or other means of communication. Those moments are perfect for Skype and now, face-to-face connection right from your inbox is just a click away.

Celebrating Skype for Outlook.com availability, a perfect pairing

To celebrate the availability of Skype for Outlook.com in the United States we have partnered with Gail Simmons, food expert and author. As a busy professional who is always on the go, Gail understands the importance of keeping in touch with friends and family. We partnered with her to announce a contest where consumers can submit a recipe for a chance to make a video call with Gail via Skype for Outlook.com. For every entry Outlook.com will donate $10 to Common Threads, a charity that promotes healthy eating with kids–and if the entry comes from an Outlook.com account, we’ll donate $20! You can learn more about the contest and enter at chow.com/outlook.

Give Skype a try

We’d love for you to give the preview of Skype for Outlook.com a try.  We are always listening to feedback so let us know what you think.

  1. That is a feature I was looking for a very long time! And finally it’s done, though I had already experienced it a week or two ago.

  2. When this feature will be available for Latin America????

    • We don’t have a specific time frame to share but the team is working hard on making this feature available world wide.

  3. What are we supposed to do when multiple devices all ring at the same time and Skype does not acknowledge this and stop the other calls from ringing? This has been a persistent problem all along. I would love to hear a good answer from the team on this. Thanks… JF

    • We’re aware of this issue and working to address it in a future release. In the meantime, you can click "decline" on the other endpoints once you’ve answered the call to get them to stop ringing. Thanks!

  4. Is there a plan to support group chat for skype on outlook.com?

    • We don’t have this functionality today, but thank you for the suggestion.

  5. Fantastic addition to Outlook! We’re looking forward to seeing what’s next.

  6. Я В ВОСХИЩЕНИИ…

  7. Dear Dawn Martynuik,

When are you rolling this in India?

    Sincerely.

  8. When can we expect this first-class integration in Outlook 2013 (the desktop client)? Lync already has this, but even installing the latest Skype client doesn’t provide this integration in Outlook 2013.
