Office 365: More value, Most complete

We believe no other vendor appears across so many industry evaluations in the area of business productivity. Vendors either include basic capabilities such as email or a limited set of business productivity capabilities. The limited capabilities in competitive offerings reflect their narrow approach to business productivity. In some cases, customers may need to either rely upon inadequate consumer services or third party apps to fulfill their business needs. Customers are realizing the limitations of such competitive offerings and coming to Office 365 where they benefit from complete productivity as they move an increasing number of workloads to the cloud. Value of Office 365

We know that you do your homework when selecting software and services to meet your business needs, so we recently went through a similar process for ourselves to understand the value of Office 365 versus other enterprise-class vendors in the productivity space. We reached out to customers to find out just how well we stack up against the other market leaders in these key areas that matter to you. Here’s how we conducted the analysis:

  1. We know customers who are looking for an enterprise-class solution seek leading vendors to fulfill their needs – everybody wants a solution they can trust and nobody wants a second class solution. For our research, we focused on the enterprise-class vendors to ensure we were comparing vendors that have established their ability to meet enterprise customer needs.
  2. For most areas of business productivity, licensing was the biggest cost incurred by customers. We compared licensing costs of other competitive services to Office 365 enterprise plan E3 to make sure we were including the broadest set of needs of customers.
  3. To round out the analysis, we factored in other costs such as migration, maintenance, and training. For example, we know customers moving from an on-premises infrastructure will incur migration costs. Customers with strict compliance requirements will likely incur data storage costs, which, for the sake of simplicity, we assumed as part of their migration costs. Other vendors charge on-going maintenance costs. Depending on their needs, customers may have to budget for training costs of either end users or IT or both.

 

 Once we zeroed in on market leading services and capabilities, what we found is that Office 365 costs less than many enterprise-class services! Let me give you some examples.

Our discussions with customers uncovered that customers typically pay up to $24/user/month for web conferencing services offered by other leading vendors. The pricing for the other vendors was further validated through independent sources on the web. Lync Online, on the other hand, includes market leading capabilities for web conferencing and IM and presence capabilities for only $6/user/month.

In addition to robust document management and enterprise content management capabilities, SharePoint Online provides enterprise social capabilities for only $7/user/month. Other enterprise-class vendors offering enterprise social capabilities typically charge $6-$12/user/month. Customers using Yammer with Office 365 rave about how it has improved social collaboration within their organizations.

No other enterprise-class vendor provides the broad set of business productivity services that Office 365 does. Choosing a different primary solution means supplementing that solution with additional services to fill the gaps. This means stitching together multiple technologies that inherently introduce both complexity and multiple user and administrative experiences. By contrast, customers who purchase Office 365 get the most complete solution while eliminating the complexity of multiple vendors. Customers of all sizes are transforming their business using Office 365 every day.
